The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Thriller That Blends Survival Horror with Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating future games, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a young woman harboring multiple personalities inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Within her exist four distinct souls, all possessing their own fears and motivations. These souls can take over spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the action takes place within a creepy medical facility, though additional clips show the protagonist navigating a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Horror

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to other people can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are specific to every individual."

The core gameplay loop involves managing whichever soul emerges at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily as you play. During exploration, every persona's fears become exaggerated and assault the protagonist in succession. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by orderlies all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the lobby have large blooms where their necks should be. Flowers are an ever-present element, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the body is rightfully them," explains a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player believes a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, since every entity can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one standing might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
