The Arrival of Estevao: A Star Is Born in the Premier League
Dramatic Winner Secures Victory Against the Champions
This represented the instant the young Brazilian made his presence felt in the Premier League.
More than 16 months since a deal was agreed to secure the young talent to Chelsea from Palmeiras, the winger threw the Blues supporters into delirium by scoring a 95th-minute decisive goal to securing a narrow victory over title holders Liverpool.
The goal sparked such emotion that Blues manager Enzo Maresca was sent off for running 50 yards to celebrate with his players.
"For an 18-year-old, he's a special talent and could develop into an elite footballer," commented ex-international forward Wayne Rooney.
"I think he's the kind of winger who the Chelsea fans will be very excited to watch perform every weekend."
Even with losing two more center-backs to injury and being without star attacker Cole Palmer, Chelsea found a way to win - with Estevao providing the decisive moment.
The Winning Goal
This crucial strike itself was fairly simple, with Estevao arriving at the far post to tap in his teammate's driven delivery.
But this occurred following Estevao - who was brought off the bench in the second half - had already tested the opposition shot-stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili, completed multiple runs, and generated two chances for team-mates, including a cross that was headed onto the woodwork by his Argentine teammate in the 91st minute.
Early Signs of Quality
Signs of Estevao's quality were evident in earlier games, with his repertoire of nutmegs, clever touches and other eye-catching moments drawing gasps from the crowd.
However, his maiden strike in a competitive match had escaped him - before this moment.
Brazilian Roots
Back in his homeland, the young star had previously established himself as a star player for one of the country's biggest clubs, and earned seven caps for Brazil which is now led by legendary ex-Blues coach Carlo Ancelotti.
It has, understandably, taken slightly longer for him to settle in England having arrived following the completion of this summer's international club competition.
"We understand that a young player can suffer when he moves from overseas to establish themselves in England and to play for Chelsea," stated Chelsea assistant coach the Argentine coach.
Squad Belief
Ex-Blues wide player Pat Nevin is convinced Estevao is "going to be special".
"Whenever a Blues footballer receives possession, they try to find Estevao," noted the former winger. "This indicates a story about a player."
"He's an 18-year-old but everyone seeks to provide him possession. That just shows what he's capable of and his performances in practice sessions. He's going to be special."
High Expectations
Senior officials at the London club have been showing enthusiasm about the Brazilian's signing ever since they finalized his transfer more than a year before his actual transfer to England.
Appropriately, Estevao netted a spectacular strike from an acute position versus Chelsea in a defeated effort on his final appearance for Palmeiras during the off-season.
His departure from the Brazilian outfit came with 27 goals and 15 assists in 83 games.
History Maker
The Brazilian became the initial footballer under 18 to have twenty attacking contributions in a single season in the Brazilian top flight, breaking a milestone set by Neymar.
In the Club World Cup, he won 'superior player of the match' twice and, appropriately enough, excelled when facing Lionel Messi's MLS side, having acquired the moniker 'Little Messi' in his homeland.
Calculated Decision
It seemed like a coup from the Blues to beat some of Europe's leading clubs, featuring PSG, Real Madrid, the Catalan club and the German champions, to the Brazilian's services.
He chose the London club stemmed from his confidence in the club's project and the promise of important involvement in his debut campaign, with his ambition focused on representing for the national team at the 2026 World Cup.
The young star sought advice from former Chelsea defender the Brazilian veteran prior to choosing Stamford Bridge in 2024.
Quick Adaptation
Chelsea had intended to ease him in, but their star's fitness issue and the Brazilian's exceptional form have resulted in him to feature in all games - except the draw with Brentford which he missed because of sickness.
The England international hopes to return from a recurring groin problem after the national team pause.
But despite their top scorer being unavailable, Estevao seems prepared to produce further significant contributions for the Blues.
