One-time Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has become the primary choice for the managerial role for Luton Town.

The 33-year-old has engaged in discussions with the Hatters and is in pole position to succeed the departed coach, who was let go in the past few days.

The Orient coach Richie Wellens reached as part of the shortlist, but Jack is nearing landing the role. An agreement is yet to be finalised.

The previous job he held was as caretaker manager for Norwich City towards the conclusion of last season, when he took over for the final two games subsequent to Johannes Hoff Thorup's dismissal.

He was subsequently not chosen for the full-time role, as Norwich hiring their current manager, and additionally connected with the Pilgrims prior to Tom Cleverley assumed control.

Luton Town, who have experienced consecutive relegations, have faced a poor opening to the current season registering five losses in their opening 11 games, leaving them in 11th place in the division.

Wilshere was U18s boss for Arsenal before joining the Canaries and he was a candidate for the club's youth team job earlier this year before withdrawing.

The former midfielder gained 34 international appearances for England and featured in 197 matches with the Gunners, before spells at West Ham and the Cherries.
