Ex- National Football League Quarterback Mark Sanchez Could Face Up to Six Years in Incarceration Following Knife Event

One-time NFL signal-caller the retired athlete might confront prison after being charged with a criminal offense this week.

This charge comes on top of multiple other legal counts he was handed previously after a physical altercation earlier in the weekend. The legal counts comprised physical attack resulting in wounds, intoxication in a public space, and illegally entering a truck in the course of the event early on Saturday morning that left Sanchez hospitalized with puncture wounds.

Monday’s charge involves a high-level criminal offense causing significant physical damage, potentially carrying a jail sentence of up to six years and a fine of a significant sum.

“It doesn’t matter who you are. Your profession is unimportant. Where you live doesn’t matter. Should you visit our city and perpetrate violence, we will use all the tools at our disposal to hold you accountable.”

The ex-quarterback was knifed and pepper sprayed by a senior driver in the course of the event in the city, where the retired athlete was due to cover an professional game featuring two NFL teams on Sunday. He is accused of approaching the individual, referred to as PT in the police affidavit, at a delivery area near a lodging establishment. PT says he was collecting waste oil from the location when the former player, who appeared intoxicated, tried to access the vehicle. The driver states the ex-athlete informed him the hotel’s management indicated they did not desire the oil picked up.

The driver stated he was convinced Sanchez was “trying to kill me” and deployed a chemical spray to ensure his safety. As the spray failed to halt the former player moving toward him, he claimed he stabbed the former quarterback on multiple occasions. Sanchez then allegedly pushed the driver into a dumpster before his expression changed to surprise and he quickly departed. Investigators examined recorded evidence of the event. Observers stated both individuals recorded one another with their cellphones during the incident.

According to the affidavit, Sanchez told police “all he could remember was grabbing for a window.” He was unable to recall the identity of his assailant or where the incident occurred.

He sustained with injuries to his upper body while the other individual experienced significant facial lacerations. This week, the local legal official the prosecutor characterized the harm as major. Sanchez was treated in the emergency room for his harm, which did not endanger his life, before he was arrested recently. He is scheduled to attend at a court session on Tuesday morning.

“The situation revolves around people fighting over a parking space.”

The prosecutor noted that a multiple observers as well as security cameras had offered investigators comprehensive insight of the incident.

Another former NFL quarterback, the ex-player, replaced Sanchez in the television coverage for Sunday’s game. Fox acknowledged the situation concisely on their weekend broadcast, according to the presenter: “we are all processing the situation … our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, his family and all those involved”.

Sanchez joined Fox in the past few years and is involved in FS1 studio programming.

Before his broadcasting career, he was active 10 seasons in the NFL with several teams, including the New York Jets, who took him with the fifth overall pick of the the draft over a decade ago. Subsequently, he joined the Eagles and Cowboys. His playing days concluded in recent years and shortly thereafter started with broadcast media before moving to Fox.
