Court Official Killed in Courthouse Incident in Albania
A defendant facing charges began shooting in a courtroom in the Albanian capital, Tirana, on the start of the week, killing the judge and wounding two additional individuals, as stated by law enforcement.
The shooter fled the scene but was later arrested.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The judge the presiding judge was fired upon inside the courtroom by a 30-year-old suspect with the initials E. Sh., according to police.
The judge died while en route to a medical facility.
Other Victims
The shooter also shot two other people present at the court proceedings, police said.
Their wounds were not life-threatening.
Ongoing Probe
Officials have yet to disclose information about the possible reason or the type of proceeding being heard.
The court docket found on the judicial portal mentioned a property dispute.
Police subsequently detained the alleged shooter and also seized a revolver believed to be the weapon used.
Following comprehensive court reforms initiated several years ago with support from the EU and US, tens of thousands of cases in Albania have been delayed for years.
