Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
