Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting Against the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer previously helped the Houston Astros securing the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden World Series following the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Down three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 win in the series. They will now face the defending champions, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, our country," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now connected for 23 total October home runs, making him third in history behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine anyone else on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot except for him with his post-season brilliance," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the sole team that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" in the wake of his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we had to come out on the losing end of this one," he continued.

Toronto's team won the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
