A Heap of Anime News Arrived Over the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays present a wealth of activities considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the headlines: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on festive fare, and employing patience techniques to refrain from snapping at family members. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy announcements came out during the break, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt more episodes. Season 3 will be back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a positive development. Yet, the promotional image for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, by now, they could be trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it maintained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now everyone is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was a further outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will probably air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

Another studio known for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Second Season

Shortly after the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not been disclosed yet.
